Cardiovascular Disorders

Hypertension — Coronary Artery Disease — High Cholesterol — Heart Disease — Stroke — Heart Attack —Heart Failure.

These are all serious, scary diagnoses. And they can all be helped with massage therapy, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine and nutritional supplementation. Acupuncture and a heart-healthy lifestyle can reduce your risk of heart disease by up to 80% and systolic blood pressure by up to 20 points when caught early. This can most of the time make it possible to avoid pharmaceutical medications, which can have long-term effects on your immune system and more directly your liver.

Acupuncture can also improves digestion and sleep, contributing to over all wellness and health. In some cases, acupuncture and massage therapy are wonderful complimentary techniques to add to Western healthcare. We recommend talking to your GP and cardiologist about your treatment regimen before making any changes. We are happy to discuss treatment protocols with them, as well, in order to make sure our treatments compliment theirs in the best way possible.

Respiratory Disorders

From the common colds to more serious conditions like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD), Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine have a long history of effectively helping reduce respiratory symptoms and fortifying the body’s immune system and overall function. For thousands of years, acupuncturists and alternative medicine specialists have been treating asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, sinusitis, and yes even allergies with acupuncture and other forms of natural Oriental Medicine.

Many symptoms of allergic rhinitis include itching of the nose, roof of the mouth, and eyes, sneezing, excessive mucus, and headaches. We have had success helping our clients reduce their use of pharmaceutical medicines, especially steroids and inhalers.

Cause of allergy Symptoms

In Chinese medicine allergic symptoms are related to the wind. In order for wind to invade, defensive energy, your wei qi, must be weak. In our experience most of our clients with allergic rhinitis have spleen qi deficiencies. Spleen deficiency can cause inflammation, including deep lying inflammation. In patients here in the States, spleen qi deficiency is many times caused by poor diet, excessive work, over-worry, or Western medicine side effects. In this context, poor diet means too much sugar, sweets, alcohol, and allergens (particularly dairy products).

The lungs are particularly vulnerable to allergens and inflammation and when the lungs become weak, they fail to direct energy downward. If the lungs fail to remove these fluids, they likely accumulate, transforming into dampness and inflammation.

Sneezing, nasal discharge and congestion are examples of counter-flow lung qi. Thus, the treatment for allergic rhinitis is to detoxify the lungs and spleen, dry dampness, circulate blood, and eliminate “wind” allowing the sinuses to properly fight bacteria and other germs. Gua Sha is another technique we use to restore fluid movement.
