Acupuncture Needles
OK - You Don't Like Needles
Who does? Many people get freaked out about Acupuncture because they are afraid of needles and think they will be getting injection needles throughout their body. So let’s just put that myth to bed right now! First, the size of an acupuncture needle vs. the one you get a shoot from is almost 10x smaller. See the photo here; you can fit anywhere from 10-25 acupuncture needles into just one blood drawing syringe. And 96.8% of those people say they wish they would have come sooner after having gone to their first treatment! So if you are scared of the needles, you now need to find another excuse.
Acupuncture needles that we use at 360 Jasmine Pain Acupuncture aren’t even real needles are nearly painless. In fact, you will barely feel the acupuncture needles being inserted into your body, all you will feel is maybe a slight dull tingling sensation, and that’s gone in about 2 seconds at most! The tingling sensation shows that the treatment is underway and that there has been an activation of the pressure point.
There are several types of acupuncture needles. In ancient China, nine different types of acupuncture needles were used, but today the most commonly used needle is needles made from stainless steel. Very occasionally, silver or gold needles can be used. Acupuncture needles come in different gauges (diameter) and lengths to be used on the different areas of the body where they are inserted, but again, the needles are very fine, the size of a hair strain – as shown in the photo.
Are the Needles Safe?
The majority of needles used today in the United States are pre-sterilized, single-use, disposable types. They are manufactured and packed under sterile conditions into foilbacked blister packs. The most commonly used needles are made of stainless steel and are usually inserted less than an inch into the skin.
Do the Needles Hurt?
Even the Cat can do it! Remember, people associate needles with hypodermic needles that they give shots with. As we now know that’s not the case. During the insertion of the needle, some patients experience a very mild tingle or sensation. Again this is good news! It means the needles are working correctly to balance the body. If a cat cat do it I think you’ll define.
